About the Choir
Romsey Ladies Choir is a non auditioned ladies choir. You not need to read music to join, but it helps if you can hold a tune.
The choir began life as a small unison glee club called “sing something simple”. The choir was formed in 1991 by Mike Richardson. Then it was run by Eireen Coulson who directed the choir until 2014 when she retired. Then the reins were handed over to Miguel Fernandez, until he returned home to Portugal in 2019. Our present Musical Director Oliver Downer, is an enormously talented and enthusiastic young man who we are so proud to have with us and to take us forward to an even brighter future.
We are now a beautiful three-part choir which aims to enjoy every moment that we perform!
We perform a variety of music, singing a range of show tunes and musical classics, easy listening through the ages, light classical and modern.
We sing for fun, but we also enjoy entertaining local community clubs and societies. Our public concerts have raised large sums of money for local and national charities. These have included, but not limited to: Marie Curie, The Lifeboat Fund, Wessex Cancer Care, Naomi House, DemFest, Homeless Night Shelter, Support Group of the Pituitary Gland Association, Romsey United Reformed Church, George's Trust and many more!
Our extremely talented pianist Joy Reynolds has been with the choir for many years and is essential for our success!
